Business Analysts is a relatively new discipline but is growing to be an integral part of guiding businesses in processing, servicing, and producing products through data analysis. Understanding its importance, many business analysis courses are now offered by various organizations. Many of these courses are available both online and offline as well. Who is a Business Analyst?

What are the various certifications available?

Many organizations offer certifications. Below are some:

  • IIBA Entry Certification in Business Analysis (ECBA): The first level of certification with the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA), this course is for the entry-level business analysts. This course requires at least 21 hours of professional training credits in four years. 
  •  IIBA Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA): This is the second level of the IIBA certification and requires a minimum of 3,750 hours of analytical work with the IIBA’s Business Analysis Book of Knowledge (BABOK) guide. A minimum of 21 hours in professional development training is required in four years. The course covers fundamentals, key concepts, techniques, and knowledge areas covered in BABOK.
  • IIBA Certified Business Analysis Professional: This is the third certification with the IIBA for people with extensive business analysis experience. A minimum of 7,500 hours of business analyst work experience within the past ten years, 900 hours of work experience, a minimum of 35 hours of professional development, and professional references are needed to qualify for this certification. It is an advanced credential that needs extensive experience and training.
  • IREB Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE): This certification is for those in Requirements Engineering (RE). The International Requirements Engineering Board (IREB) offers this course at three levels-
  1. At the Foundation level, you’ll be taught the basics of RE.
  2. The Advanced level, where you can choose between Requirements Elicitation and Consolidation, Requirements Modeling, and Requirements Management.
  3. The Expert level, where hands-on experience, as well as knowledge and skills gained from previous certifications, are taught.

IQBBA Certified Foundation Level Business Analyst also known as CFLBA: This is a globally recognized certification offered by the International Qualifications Board for Business Analysts also known as IQBBA and is an entry-level certification that qualifies you to go for higher levels of certification. It covers enterprise analysis, business analysis process planning, solution validation, tools, innovation, designs, and many others.

Business Analysts are a relatively recent development, but there are already several organizations offering certifications for people to upgrade and refine their analytical skills.
