If our diet does not provide us with enough probiotics (friendly bacteria), we may feel the need to take probiotic supplements. Probiotics maintain digestive health and comfort by digesting specific nutrients in food and allowing for proper storage of nutrients and minerals. A normal healthy gut has a good balance between friendly and bad bacteria; however, this balance is fragile. Factors such as stress, diet, medications (especially antibiotics) can have adverse effects, increasing the need for some of us to take probiotic supplements on a daily basis.

There are many different types of probiotic supplements, which contain different types of bacteria (probiotics). The most common of these bacteria is L.Acidophilus. This particular type of bacteria will be found in almost all probiotic supplements.

L Acidophilus is able to feed on gastric acid and salts in the bile expected during a meal, thus reaching the intestines where it is needed.

Other beneficial bacteria found in probiotic supplements: biofit probiotic supplements supports the production of antibodies, promotes cleansing and maintains resistance to harmful and unwanted bacteria. B.Bifidum also supports the bowel to promote transport, promote comfort and improve endurance and regular bowel movements.

These FOS (fructooligosaccharides) are known as prebiotics and are found in many probiotic supplements that act as a food source for bacteria such as B. Bifidum. FOS is not digested and therefore travels safely to the large intestine which provides nutrients for the growth of probiotics.

There is a positive interaction between B. Bifidum and prebiotics (FOS) in the gut, and it has a significant effect on supporting intestinal health and wellness.

Probiotics are also found in live natural yogurt, although not in a concentrated form like you might get by eating a probiotic supplement. Keep in mind that getting probiotics daily from many yogurt drinks on the market is not the best way to achieve a healthy balance of good bacteria. Many of these products contain sugar to give it a good taste, which is a staple food for bad bacteria. Keep the capsule or powdered form of the probiotic supplement.
