What is a game in education?
Perhaps at this time, some parents will ask, what is gamification education? Before talking about gamification education at lido classes, let’s get to know the game first.
Humans have records about games that can be traced back to more than 3000 years ago. At first, people accepted fate without complaint and hoped that the harvest would come soon. However, it was counterproductive. When the situation could not get better, the Lydian invented a strange remedy to solve the famine problem. It was also the earliest game— -dice. They first spend a whole day focusing on playing dice, so that they can forget their craving for food. The next day they eat and restrain their desire to play games. Relying on this approach, they survived a long 18-year famine.
With games, humans can even avoid eating. It can be seen that games are a way for humans to pursue pleasure, and people are born to love to play games. We will find an interesting phenomenon. No matter how we tell our children to study hard, you have to think about the future. No matter how much you tell him, games are not as attractive to him, because games are easy for people to enter the “flow of heart” status.
“Flow” is a mental state manifested when focusing on certain behavior, and it is a feeling that one’s mental energy is completely devoted to a certain activity. The flow of heart is accompanied by a high degree of excitement and fulfillment. Education is mixed with games at lido learning where children can learn every subject with a whole new approach.
Professor Mitchell’s 4P learning method
Last week, Professor Mitchell, father of children’s programming, came to China and brought his new book “Lifelong Kindergarten” and gave a special speech on “How to cultivate children’s lifelong creativity”.
We are the only children’s programming education institution invited to participate in this event. I also took this opportunity to have a face-to-face exchange with Professor Mitchell.
Professor Mitchell believes: “We need more creative things, not those tedious tasks. Creativity can provide happy and meaningful work and solve those tedious and repetitive mechanical tasks. Especially in artificial intelligence. In the emerging era, we should pay more attention to what technology does not possess-creativity .”
How to cultivate creativity? Professor Mitchell gave his answer: 4P learning method.
The so-called 4p refers to the 4 English words of projects, passion, peers, and play, which start with the letter P. These 4 main guiding principles for cultivating creativity are collectively called the “4P Learning method”.
You can simply understand it as allowing children to actively share their experience and results with peers during the process of building game projects based on their own passion, and to learn and grow in play. This is the whole process of creativity.
Recognize the real operation process of the game, and simulate and create the model in reality according to the structure of the game work, which can bring more happiness to the children. Games can stimulate children’s creativity, allowing them to try to guide them beyond the limits of ability through choices and challenges, and these lessons will be precious in their future growth and life.
Game design is not only a technical skill, but it is also the way of thinking and leadership in the 21st century; playing games is not just for fun, it is the way to work together to achieve real change in the 21st century.
